Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Chiropractic care is used most often to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches.

Doctors of Chiropractic – often referred to as chiropractors or chiropractic physicians – practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling.
Chiropractic manipulation refers to a chiropractor applying manipulation to the vertebrae that have abnormal movement patterns or fail to function normally. Chiropractic manipulation (also known as chiropractic adjustment or spinal manipulation), is a common therapeutic treatment for lower back pain. The objective of this chiropractic treatment is to reduce the subluxation, which results in an increased range of motion, reduced nerve irritability and improved function.
A Holistic Chiropractic Approach to Wellness

Holistic chiropractors are licensed by both the state and the country to provide safe, drug-free, natural, non-invasive therapy for the effectual treatment of numerous disorders which can occur within the body. A holistic chiropractor’s approach to healing the body, besides spinal adjustments, will often include treatments which involve diet, exercise, nutrition, and other important lifestyle changes. Their practice is based on the fact that all functions of the body are completed based on signals that are created by the brain and travel down the spinal cord to all of the various organs and cells of the body. Disorders are usually the result of interferences in these signals which prevents the messages from being delivered.

The Holistic approach uses education, knowledge, diagnostic skills, laboratory skills, and their educated judgment to evaluate the state of the patient’s current neurological health in order to develop treatment that is personalized for each patient. Holistic chiropractors will do a complete health background, often taking a physical examination as well as using X-rays, MRIs, ultrasounds, and other techniques available to them in order to make sure they diagnose their patients correctly.

They may use many modalities of healing such as (hot links) acupuncture, diet and nutritional support, applied kinesiology, and hormonal imbalance testing.

The American Chiropractic Association (ACA), based in Arlington, Va., is the largest professional association in the United States representing doctors of chiropractic. ACA promotes the highest standards of ethics and patient care, contributing to the health and well-being of millions of chiropractic patients.
